Decay

I've been revisiting a lot of old characters lately. This is a redesign of a character I came up with when I was in about 3rd or 4th grade. I used to like to climb trees and pretend to be this bizarre skeletal creature. And if that's not weird enough, I also watched a lot of Disney movies back then so all my characters sang musical numbers, and this guy was no exception.

Feel free to comment about anatomical inaccuracies if you wish, but I was going for more creative than accurate in this case and didn't use a lot of references, so I know it's probably not strictly correct in a lot of places. Since this was a childhood character I was kind of trying to tap into that bygone place where I could be creative without worrying so much about that kind of thing. I love biology and anatomy but sometimes I fear that worrying about anatomical plausibility makes me too cautious as a designer. So I've been pushing myself to start off drawing from memory, and then break out references during the end stages of the rough and try to reign it in only where it's so off that it becomes distracting.
